Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reportedly retained eight commissioners from his former cabinet as he prepares to forward a fresh list of nominees to the State House of Assembly for approval. According to Ireporter Online, the move follows the expiration of the six-month state of emergency earlier declared on the state by President Bola Tinubu.

Governor Fubara, who had announced the dissolution of his cabinet after resuming full executive duties, is said to have decided to keep some of his trusted hands while reconstituting a new team.

A reliable source at the Government House in Port Harcourt disclosed that the eight commissioners retained include Dr. Adaeze Oreh (Health), Charles Amadi (Chieftaincy Affairs), Christopher Green (Sports), Joe Johnson (Information and Communications), Chisom Gbali (Youth Development), Victor Kii (Agriculture), Dr. Roseline Uranta (Women Affairs), and Nwafor Maximus (Energy and Natural Resources).

The insider revealed that Governor Fubara may introduce a minor reshuffle that could see some commissioners redeployed to different ministries. The governor is reportedly set to forward the new list of nominees to the Assembly soon, as part of efforts to restore full governance operations in the state.

The source explained that Governor Fubara personally informed the retained commissioners about the impending reshuffle, emphasizing that the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, would retain her portfolio due to her outstanding performance.

“The governor told them to get ready for a reshuffle. He also made it clear that the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, will remain in her position because of her impressive service,” the source noted, adding that the full list of new commissioners would be sent to the Assembly shortly.

It was also gathered that, as part of the peace agreement reached following reconciliation talks between the governor and the state legislature, some loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, may be considered in the new cabinet to promote inclusiveness and stability.

Speaking on the recent meeting convened by Rivers elders, which was attended by Wike and members of the Assembly, the source emphasized that Governor Fubara acted within his constitutional powers and remains in firm control of state affairs.

“Governor Fubara is the duly elected leader of Rivers State and is focused on what is best for the people. Everyone, including those affected by the Supreme Court ruling, has now accepted the reality and aligned with his leadership. Peace has returned to the state, and in the coming weeks, many positive changes will be witnessed,” the source added.
