Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has revealed that the state carries a liability of over 13.6 billion naira in gratuities and pension allowances owed to retirees from 2015 to the present.

The governor made this announcement during the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries of Nigeria, Zamfara State Chapter, held in Gusau, the state capital. He assured the retirees that his administration is committed to initiating the payment of the outstanding gratuities and pension allowances to enhance the well-being of retired civil servants in the state.

Governor Lawal highlighted the measures taken by his administration upon assuming office, including the reduction of the number of ministries and commissioners to eighteen, as part of efforts to streamline governance costs. He also mentioned the establishment of a committee tasked with conducting a comprehensive staff verification across all ministries to determine accurate staffing numbers, aiming to enhance welfare and boost productivity.
