This rallying cry comes as a response to the pressing need to mobilize resources and confront the pandemic of drug abuse head-on.

In a powerful communique signed by the Chairperson of the Forum, Amb. Olufolake Abdulrasaq, wife of the Kwara governor, the urgent call for action was made clear.

The communique was issued following a two-day Drug Prevention Treatment and Care (DPTC) training organized by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for wives of state governors in Abuja.

The governor’s wives emphasized the critical importance of taking control and revitalizing the State Drug Control Committees (SDCC) for optimal functioning in states that have them.

Additionally, they stressed the necessity of encouraging states without SDCCs to establish them and to enhance rehabilitation programs aimed at holistic recovery and harm reduction.

Among the resolutions outlined in the communique, the forum highlighted the imperative to foster good parenting, promote community outreach programs, and support the NDLEA Drug Integrity Testing Policy.

They also pledged to strengthen collaboration between state governments, NDLEA, and other security agencies to combat drug use and trafficking effectively.

Furthermore, the forum committed to the establishment of standard drug rehabilitation centers across the states and to work closely with the NDLEA to embed DPTC in all anti-drug intervention programs.

Recognizing the socioeconomic impact of drug abuse, they underscored the need to create skill acquisition centers and employment opportunities for young people to deter them from engaging in drug-related activities.

In closing, the governors’ wives affirmed their dedication to translating the knowledge gained from the training into tangible actions within their respective states. The commendable efforts of the NDLEA, under the leadership of retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, were acknowledged, with a commitment to support and implement initiatives aimed at curbing drug abuse and trafficking.
