Tinubu Urges Senate To Confirm Alabi As NAHCON Chairman

Tinubu’s request was communicated in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpiabio, and read during the plenary session held on Tuesday in Abuja.

“I am pleased to present to you for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of the following individuals as Chairman and members of the National Hajj Commission,” the letter stated.

The nominees listed in the letter include Jalal Alabi as Chairman, Aliyu Abdulrazaq as Commissioner for Policy Personnel and Finance, Mr. Anofi Elegushi as Commissioner for Operations, and Prof. Abubakar Yagawal as Commissioner for Planning and Research.

Tinubu expressed hope that the Senate would promptly consider the request, emphasizing the importance of the appointments.

In response, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpiabio, noted the requirement of the National Hajj Commission Act 2006, which stipulates that commission members should be selected from all six zones of the country.

He announced plans to contact the office of the Chief of Staff to the President regarding the absence of representatives from all zones in the submitted list.

Subsequently, Akpabio referred the matter to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for further scrutiny and legislative action, with a mandate to report back to the plenary session within 10 days.
