Laye Sekou Camara, alongside his two deputies, Fode Soumah and Abdoulaye Kone, were relieved of their duties through a decree signed by junta chief General Mamady Doumbouya.
Additionally, the managing director and deputy of Guinea’s national oil company were also dismissed via a separate decree.
Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah addressed the press, stating, “Those responsible for this situation (linked to the power cuts) owe us an explanation and everyone must take their share of responsibility.”
The decision comes in the aftermath of tragic deaths, including two children aged eight and 14, who were killed during violent protests in Kindia on Tuesday, located 130 kilometers (80 miles) east of Conakry.
In Conakry, clashes erupted between demonstrators and security forces on Thursday following a blackout that plunged much of the capital into darkness.
According to a statement from EDG (Electricité de Guinée), the power outage was triggered by an incident involving a high-voltage pylon.
Despite its rich mineral and natural resources, Guinea continues to grapple with poverty and has been plagued by decades of authoritarian rule, along with persistent fuel shortages and electricity blackouts.
