According to Punch Newspaper, the incident occurred on Abakiliki Street, near Emenike Street in the Mile 1 area, around 8:30 pm on Saturday, sending shockwaves through the residents of Diobu.

This marks the second murder within a week in the area, intensifying fears among locals about their safety and the surge in violence.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the assailants, believed to be cultists, had trailed Sopruchi before launching the attack while he was engaged in conversation, indicating a targeted hit.

After fatally shooting Sopruchi, the gunmen fled with his motorcycle and mobile phone, leaving bystanders to rush to his aid. Despite their efforts to rush him to a hospital, Sopruchi was pronounced dead, adding to the grim tally of casualties.

The escalating violence in Diobu has prompted residents to call for increased police presence and action in the area to quell the unrest.

Expressing concern over the situation, an eyewitness remarked, “What is happening in Diobu is becoming scary. Let the police be up and doing so that people can sleep with their two eyes closed here.”

While the Rivers State Police Command had previously confirmed the investigation into the killing that occurred last Thursday at Nanka/Lumuber Street, attempts to reach the spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, for comments on the latest incident remained unanswered.
