The lawmaker further criticized the Tax Reform Bills, arguing that they do not align with the interests of the North, and expressed doubts over the rapid pace at which the government wants to push them through. A representative from the North-West also noted that the situation nearly led to a rebellion against the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the session. The bills, which include the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, the Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill, have sparked resistance among lawmakers, particularly in the North, due to concerns over their implications for regional interests.
