According to the Minister, the deliberations centered on the pressing need for state police, marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s security landscape. He emphasized that while the decision is monumental, further discussions and meticulous planning are imperative to fine-tune the modalities for implementing state police.
He stated, “The federal government and state governments are mulling the possibility of setting up state police. This is a significant shift… A lot of meetings will have to happen between different government and sub-nationals to see the modalities of achieving this.”
