Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Duoye Diri (Bayelsa), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Chukwuma Soludo (Anambra), Alex Otti (Abia), and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta) made these commitments during Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations held across various state capitals.

Honoring Sacrifices Through Action

Governor Abiodun, speaking in Ogun, emphasized the need for collective responsibility in supporting the families of Nigeria’s fallen heroes. “Let us pledge to honor their memory not just with ceremonies but through tangible actions,” he said. He highlighted the need for unity to overcome division and urged Nigerians to keep the legacies of the Armed Forces alive.

Governor Diri, addressing a congregation at the King of Glory Chapel in Yenagoa, described fallen heroes as “special people” who deserve gratitude and celebration for their ultimate sacrifice. He also recognized the enduring strength of their families.

Empowering Families of Fallen Heroes

At St. Andrew Military Church in Kaduna, Governor Sani, represented by Dr. James Kanyip, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to empowering the families of fallen heroes. “We shall continue to implement schemes that lift them from poverty to self-sustenance. This is the least we can do,” he stated.

Governor Soludo of Anambra underscored the importance of community vigilance and participation in addressing insecurity, urging residents to report suspicious activities.

A Nation United in Gratitude

Governor Otti, speaking in Umuahia, paid tribute to veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces for their dedication. He emphasized that “nothing is too much for these heroes who ensure we sleep with our eyes closed.”

Governor Oborevwori of Delta State, represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, called for peace, unity, and justice, urging Nigerians to emulate the selflessness of fallen heroes.

Calls for Global Peace and Justice

Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, stressed the importance of improving welfare for veterans and called for collective support for their families. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, highlighted the sacrifices of the Armed Forces as the foundation of Nigeria’s unity and progress.

The governors, alongside religious and traditional leaders, echoed a unified message: the sacrifices of Nigeria’s heroes must inspire every citizen to contribute to the nation’s peace, unity, and development.
