The motion for urgent national importance, introduced by Hon. Dennis Okafor during a session in Abuja, called for an inquiry into the escape of Nadeem Anjarwalla, a key executive of the cryptocurrency exchange platform Binance. Anjarwalla’s sudden escape on March 22, 2024, from an Abuja guest house where he was detained on charges of alleged tax evasion, among other offenses, has sparked questions and speculation.

According to reports, Anjarwalla was permitted to leave the premises for prayers during the Ramadan fast, facilitated by guards on duty, before he managed to flee.

In response to the incident, Hon. Okafor urged relevant House committees to investigate the escape and hold those responsible accountable for potential misconduct or negligence. The motion was promptly adopted by lawmakers, reflecting a collective concern over the security breach and its implications for justice and corporate accountability in Nigeria.
