Senate and House Of Reps To Resume Plenary In Newly Renovated Chambers
After two years of extensive renovation, members of the Senate and House of Representatives are poised to resume plenary sessions in their newly refurbished chambers. The renovation project, initiated under the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in April 2022, has finally concluded, paving the way for legislators to return to their original chambers…..READ ALSO Mechanisms For Funding Student Loans Revealed By Reps Committee Chair Isiaka
Since the commencement of the renovation, lawmakers have been conducting plenary sessions in temporary chambers. The decision to renovate the National Assembly complex sparked controversy in 2019 when an initial budget of over N30 billion was allocated for the project. However, following public outcry, the budget was revised down to N9 billion.
Despite the delays and criticism surrounding the renovation, the completion of the project marks a significant milestone for the legislative branch. With the resumption of plenary sessions scheduled for today, after a break spanning over five weeks due to Easter and Eid El-Fitr holidays, lawmakers are expected to reconvene and resume legislative activities.
Ahead of the resumption, the leadership of the House of Representatives, including Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and his predecessor Femi Gbajabiamila, inspected the newly renovated Green Chamber on Monday. The photos of the renovated chamber showcase the modernization and enhancements made to the legislative space, providing an upgraded environment for lawmakers to conduct their duties.
As the Senate and House of Representatives prepare to convene in their renovated chambers, the completion of the renovation project signals a renewed commitment to the functioning of Nigeria’s legislative institutions. With the unveiling of the refurbished chambers, lawmakers are poised to resume their legislative responsibilities with renewed vigor and dedication.

If Ningi Makes A Plea, We Will Look Into His Suspension — Senate
The Senate has hinted at the possibility of lifting the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP, Bauchi).
Recall that the embattled lawmaker was given a three-month suspension by his colleagues for alleging that the Upper Chamber “padded“ the 2024 Budget to the tune of N3.7 trillion.
This represents more than 10 per cent of the N28.78 trillion budget passed by the National Assembly and assented to by President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking in a media parley in Abuja on Monday, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Yemi Adaramodu stated that the suspension of Senator Ningi was a decision taken by 108 out of the 109 Senators whose integrity was subjected to public redicue.
