Lagos 2027: Gbadamosi Reveals Why He Chose Rhodes-Vivour As Running Mate

The Lagos State Deputy Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Babatunde Gbadamosi, has explained why he accepted to run alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, in the 2027 election.

Gbadamosi said his decision was influenced by his belief that younger Nigerians should be given greater opportunities to occupy leadership positions, rather than being continually told they are the “leaders of tomorrow.”

According to Ireporter Online, the politician said some Lagos residents had questioned why a more experienced politician would choose to contest for the deputy governorship position instead of seeking the top job.

He explained that Nigeria’s political history contains examples of relatively young leaders who made significant contributions to governance. He cited Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who led the Western Region in his early 40s, as well as Anthony Enahoro, who was 23 when he moved the motion for Nigeria’s independence.

Gbadamosi also recalled the emergence of Mobolaji Johnson as Lagos State’s first military governor at the age of 31, noting that Johnson worked with older and more experienced figures in his administration.

He argued that the combination of youthful energy and experience could produce effective governance, stressing that young Nigerians should no longer be made to wait indefinitely for their opportunity to lead.

The ADC chieftain said Rhodes-Vivour, who is in his early 40s, possesses the energy and capabilities he believes Lagos requires at this time.

He also recalled his previous involvement in helping Rhodes-Vivour secure the Labour Party governorship ticket ahead of the 2023 election, saying his confidence in the younger politician had remained strong.

Gbadamosi urged Lagos residents to support the Rhodes-Vivour-Gbadamosi ticket in the 2027 governorship election, saying the state needs a new direction.

He criticised the political establishment in Lagos, accusing it of presiding over what he described as decades of poor governance and failing to adequately protect the interests and future of young people.

The deputy governorship candidate maintained that the time had come for youths to take active leadership roles while benefiting from the guidance and experience of older generations.

He therefore called on residents who desire what he described as a better and more prosperous Lagos to support the ADC ticket at the polls.
