I Didn’t Feel Safe” — Wike Reveals Abuja Eatery Encounter

According to Ireporter Online, Wike shared the incident during a media chat in Abuja while responding to questions about his relationship with residents and his assessment of the impact of ongoing developments across the nation’s capital.

The former Rivers State governor explained that he once visited an undisclosed restaurant without his security personnel, hoping to enjoy a quiet meal. However, he said the situation changed after a large number of people gathered around him shortly after his arrival.

Wike stated that about 50 individuals approached him at the location, and although some appeared to be welcoming him, he felt uneasy due to the circumstances surrounding the gathering.

The FCT Minister said he could not interpret the situation as mere public support, adding that the crowd’s presence made him uncomfortable and forced him to leave the restaurant before returning at another time.

He further disclosed that after stepping outside the facility, he noticed some individuals waiting around and expecting financial assistance from him.

Wike stressed that public officials must be able to move around freely without situations where gatherings become overwhelming or create concerns about personal security. He maintained that such encounters should not automatically be viewed as expressions of popularity or public acceptance.
