According to Ireporter Online, Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has confirmed the end of his marriage to Halima Kazaure after six years of union.

The couple, who tied the knot in October 2020, had a high-profile wedding ceremony attended by prominent figures including former Senate Presidents Ahmad Lawan and Bukola Saraki, as well as the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Bashir made the revelation via his account on Friday during an interaction with followers, following online reactions to his public admiration of another woman during the Eid al-Kabir celebration.

The controversy began after he reshared a photo of @oheems on with a caption suggesting interest in starting a family, a post that quickly sparked criticism from users who pointed out that he was still married at the time.

Responding to the backlash, Bashir disclosed that the marriage had already ended in divorce and further stated that the woman in question is now his fiancée.

He explained that the decision to end the marriage was influenced by what he described as irreconcilable issues tied to generational differences, while also expressing satisfaction with his current relationship and cultural experience.

Bashir further commented on his approach to relationships, claiming he has never been the one to initiate romantic pursuits or propose marriage, insisting that women typically make the first move in his experience. He added that his former wife, Halima, was the one who initiated their relationship and eventually proposed marriage before their wedding in 2020.

He also maintained that he does not rely on wealth or material incentives to attract romantic partners, noting that he often becomes aware of their interest long after the fact.
