IGP Egbetokun Assures INTERPOL Will Re-Arrest Fleeing Binance Executive
The Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has provided assurances regarding the re-arrest of Nadeem Anjarwalla, the Binance Regional Manager for Africa, who recently escaped custody in Nigeria. Egbetokun stated that INTERPOL is actively involved in efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect. Although he did not divulge specific details, he expressed confidence in INTERPOL’s capabilities and affirmed that Anjarwalla would be re-arrested.
The escape of Anjarwalla, 38, from a ‘safe house’ on March 22, 2024, prompted swift responses from INTERPOL and the Nigerian police. Egbetokun’s statement underscores the seriousness with which law enforcement agencies are treating the situation.
In addition to discussing the escape incident, the IGP provided an update on Nigeria’s security landscape, highlighting an increase in kidnapping and murder cases in recent weeks. Police records indicate 214 kidnapping incidents and 537 homicide cases reported during the past eight weeks, with 3,685 suspects arrested and 401 kidnapped victims rescued.
Egbetokun reiterated the police’s commitment to proactive and strategic law enforcement, leveraging technology and intelligence to preempt and disrupt criminal activities. He emphasized the importance of analyzing available information to anticipate criminal behavior, dismantle illicit networks, and swiftly apprehend perpetrators.
