The protest, which occurred during daylight hours, saw hundreds of residents expressing their concerns about the decision made by the current administration.
An anonymous resident, speaking to DAILY POST, voiced deep apprehension over the closure, stating, “Rochas gave us this Polytechnic, and now, Hope Uzodimma closed it. Yet, some may be happier with Hope than Rochas,” reflecting the mixed sentiments within the community.
The protesters marched through the town, carrying placards and chanting slogans, highlighting their grievances about what they perceive as an unfair distribution of educational institutions across the state.
The source pointed out regional disparities, particularly in the Okigwe zone, and questioned the logic behind closing the Ehime Mbano Polytechnic while creating new institutions elsewhere.
The demonstration underscores a broader issue of neglect and marginalization felt by the people of Ehime Mbano and the larger Okigwe zone.
As the community continues to demand answers and seek justice, there is a growing need for dialogue between the state government and the affected communities to ensure equitable development across Imo State.
