In a live Instagram video shared on Wednesday night, movie producer Stanley Nwoke, who had been closely accompanying the actor throughout the ordeal, solemnly confirmed the devastating news of Pope’s demise. With heavy hearts, Nwoke relayed that after hours of fighting for his life, three different doctors from various hospitals had ultimately pronounced Pope dead.

The circumstances leading to Pope’s untimely death were described as deeply distressing. Nwoke revealed that Pope had initially been rejected by a morgue, then subjected to a ritual at the riverbank before being rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The tragic incident that claimed Pope’s life occurred during a film shoot, as he and three others embarked on a journey across the River Niger in Anambra State. Reports indicate that their boat capsized, resulting in a devastating loss. While initial fears suggested Pope had perished alongside his companions, conflicting reports emerged, creating a wave of uncertainty.

Contrary to earlier reports, Emeka Rollas, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), had earlier offered a glimmer of hope, confirming that Junior Pope was alive and undergoing treatment at an undisclosed medical facility. However, the subsequent confirmation of his passing has shattered hopes and cast a pall over the entire Nollywood community.

In another tragic loss for the Nigerian film industry, Kannywood veteran actress Saratu Gidado, fondly known as Daso, was also reported deceased. According to her relatives, Gidado, who was observing Ramadan, was found lifeless in the morning after returning to bed following the pre-dawn meal.
