As the 14th speaker out of a total of 20 leaders slated for the initial day, Tinubu’s speech will follow South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who leads the morning session. In the afternoon session, the UN General Assembly will hear from five African leaders, including Algeria’s Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Morocco’s Aziz Akhannouch, Mozambique’s Filipe Nyusi, and Senegal’s Macky Sall.
Tinubu is scheduled to deliver his statement around 6pm (11pm Nigerian time) to a global audience of leaders. The proceedings will commence with the address by the President of Brazil, Luiz da Silva, followed by the U.S. President, Joe Biden, representing the host country, in keeping with tradition.
The 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 78) will formally open on September 5, with Dennis Francis of Trinidad and Tobago assuming the role of the new President for the upcoming 12 months. The high-level General Debate, carrying the theme “Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and Its Sustainable Development Goals towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Sustainability for All,” will span from September 19 to September 29.
