Kaduna Government Takes Proactive Measures To Control Avian Influenza Outbreak

The Kaduna State Government has reassured the public of its commitment to promptly manage and control the ongoing Avian Influenza outbreak in the region, collaborating closely with stakeholders to address the situation effectively.

The statement noted that the first confirmed case of Avian Influenza in Nigeria occurred in January 2025, affecting Kano, Plateau, and Rivers States. In response, the Kaduna State Government, under the leadership of Governor Senator Uba Sani, has prioritized the protection of agricultural investments. Funds have already been allocated to strengthen biosecurity protocols within the poultry sector.

To curb the disease’s spread, the government has taken the following actions: engaging all poultry industry stakeholders, procuring and distributing disinfectants to decontaminate live bird markets and poultry farms, and deploying decontamination equipment to key parties. Additionally, statewide weekly disinfection and decontamination of slaughter slabs and abattoirs in all Local Government Areas are underway, alongside public awareness campaigns through multiple media channels and active surveillance at all state entry points.

The statement further emphasized that rapid response teams are actively working on the ground to implement control measures in affected areas.

“The public is urged to remain calm as Governor Uba Sani is fully committed to providing all necessary support to control the outbreak, protect the poultry industry, and maintain food security within the state,” the statement concluded.
