Kaduna Political War Heats Up: El-Rufai’s Supporters Slam Governor Sani For Targeting Their Boss

The ongoing feud between former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and his successor, Uba Sani, has escalated as El-Rufai’s former aides have strongly defended him against the current administration. The aides accused the Sani-led administration of targeting them, claiming that since June 2024, several former officials had been interrogated by anti-corruption bodies under dubious pretenses. They argued that this was an intentional effort to harass and discredit El-Rufai’s administration.

The tension between El-Rufai and Sani reached new heights after allegations resurfaced from the Kaduna State House of Assembly accusing El-Rufai’s government of mismanaging over N423 billion. However, El-Rufai’s allies dismissed these claims as politically motivated and false, asserting that the external loans cited in the report were not issued during his tenure.

The dispute intensified after the arrest and arraignment of former officials from El-Rufai’s administration on corruption charges, with some, like Bashir Saidu and Jimi Lawal, facing lengthy detentions despite securing bail. Additionally, Governor Sani’s appointment of former political opponents of El-Rufai, such as Samaila Suleiman and Ramalan Yero, further aggravated the situation.

As the rift deepens, it seems the political battle between El-Rufai and Sani will continue to influence the dynamics of Kaduna State.
