Kalu Reacts As Tinubu, Shettima Bag Igbo Traditional Title
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has emphasized that the conferment of Igbo traditional titles on President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima will contribute to national cohesion and integration.
In extending congratulations to President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for receiving separate Igbo chieftaincy titles, the deputy speaker expressed confidence that these titles would promote the much-needed peace in the southeast.

The traditional titles were conferred on both leaders during the 32nd Ukpo Ofala celebration of His Royal Highness, Igwe Dr. Robert Chukwudilim Eze, Igwe Ukpo and Clan Head of Dunuokofia Ancient Kingdom in Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government of Anambra State.
President Tinubu, represented by the Vice President, received the traditional title of “Eze Udo of Igbo Land,” signifying “King of Peace in Igbo Land,” while Shettima was adorned with the title “Enyi Ndigbo,” meaning “A friend of Igbo people.”
Kalu, who witnessed the conferment alongside other dignitaries, expressed delight in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, highlighting the significance of these traditional titles in Igbo traditions. He commended the Tinubu administration for providing a sense of belonging to the Igbo people through appointments, stating that it would strengthen national cohesion and integration.

Kalu also welcomed the traditional titles in the context of a new peace initiative called Peace in South East Project (PISE-P), aimed at resolving security challenges and other sociological issues in the region through non-kinetic approaches. He expressed optimism that the southeast would receive unprecedented attention from the current APC government, urging people to embrace peace and remain steadfast.
In response to receiving the titles, Vice President Shettima affirmed that the Tinubu-led government understood the challenges faced by Ndi Igbo and would diligently work to overcome them.
He said: “With our leaders like Senator Hope Uzodinma, Senator Dave Umahi, Hon. Ben Kalu, the process of integrating Ndi Igbo in the mainstream of Nigerian politics has commenced. Senator Ifeanyi Uba has just joined APC.
“Wherever you go in this country, if you do not see an Igbo man, you better run away from that place. Why won’t I identify with you? Be rest assured that Ndi Igbo are the heartbeat of the Nigeria nation. We will work assiduously to see that Ndi Igbo are well represented.”
