Nine members of the Jehovah Witnesses, devout followers on a journey of faith, found themselves thrust into a nightmare as they became victims of a brazen kidnapping.

It was a typical Saturday afternoon when the group, comprising two women, four men, and two female students, embarked on a journey from Kabba to Lokoja for a church convention. Little did they know that their pilgrimage of devotion would be disrupted by the sinister intentions of criminals lurking along the Kabba-Lokoja Road.

As their vehicle traversed the winding roads, a sudden halt shattered the tranquility. Armed men emerged from the shadows, their faces obscured by masks, their intent unmistakably malevolent. With swift and calculated precision, the assailants seized the unsuspecting travelers, dragging them into the dense foliage of the surrounding bush.

Among the captives was Mr. Elupo Eliazer, whose heart sank as he witnessed his beloved wife being forcibly taken away. Helpless and anguished, he recounted the chilling moments when the kidnappers, emboldened by their heinous act, demanded a ransom of N30 million for the release of their hostages.

Despite the terror that gripped them, Eliazer and his fellow captives clung to hope, praying fervently for deliverance from their ordeal. Days turned into nights as they languished in captivity, their faith tested amidst the uncertainty and fear that enveloped them.

Meanwhile, negotiations ensued between the kidnappers and the families of the victims, each passing moment fraught with anguish and desperation. The initial demand of N30 million loomed ominously, a staggering sum that seemed beyond reach for the humble congregation of Jehovah Witnesses.

Yet, amidst the darkness of their captivity, glimmers of hope emerged. Through the unwavering support of their community and the tireless efforts of law enforcement, a breakthrough was achieved. The kidnappers, perhaps sensing the mounting pressure, eventually lowered their ransom demand to N2.6 million, a still daunting but more attainable sum.

As the negotiations continued, the plight of the abducted Jehovah Witnesses garnered widespread attention, rallying the collective empathy and support of the nation. Across Kogi State and beyond, prayers were offered, voices raised in solidarity, as a united front formed to secure the safe release of the hostages.

In the face of adversity, the resilience of faith and the power of unity prevailed. Finally, after days of uncertainty and anguish, the captives were freed, their spirits battered but unbroken, their faith in humanity reaffirmed.

The ordeal of the abducted Jehovah Witnesses served as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring strength of the human spirit. Yet, amidst the darkness, there emerged a beacon of hope—a testament to the unwavering resolve of a community bound by faith and solidarity in the face of adversity.
