Kwara State Shortlists 1,800 Candidates For Teaching Positions

The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission has shortlisted 1,800 candidates for teaching appointments within the state. This announcement was made in a statement by Mr. Sam Onile, the Chief Press Secretary of the commission, which was shared with reporters in Ilorin.

Onile explained that the shortlisted candidates were selected following a rigorous screening process that included a computer-based test and interviews conducted over three months.

The breakdown of the shortlisted candidates includes 790 (44%) for STEM subjects, 581 for core subjects, 370 for specialized subjects, and 59 for technical subjects.

“These candidates will be assigned to senior secondary schools across all 16 local government areas of the state, in accordance with the commission’s needs assessment,” he noted.

He urged all applicants who participated in the interviews to check their status on the portal and stated that those selected will undergo a mandatory drug test to ensure their suitability for teaching children.

The drug tests will be conducted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and coordinated by the Governor’s Special Assistant on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control, Hon. Mukail Aileru.

The drug testing period will run from Wednesday, April 9, 2025, to Saturday, April 12, 2025. Candidates from Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, and Patigi are scheduled for testing on Wednesday, while those from Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin will be tested on Thursday, April 10. Testing for candidates from Offa, Oke Ero, Oyun, and Moro is planned for Friday, April 11, and candidates from Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, and Ilorin West will be tested on Saturday.

“Certificates from the drug test will be sent directly to the commission by the NDLEA, as no candidate will have access to them in order to prevent any alterations,” Onile added.

Successful applicants will also be required to sign a bond agreeing not to seek transfers for six years, a measure to address the shortage of teachers in rural areas.

Additionally, shortlisted candidates must present medical certificates from any state government hospital and original copies of their credentials for documentation. They will also need to submit photocopies of these documents for record-keeping and provide handwritten letters of acceptance for the job offer, with further details of the conditions of service to be outlined during the documentation process, as stated by Onile.
