Labour Reiterates Call for 14-Day Nationwide Strike Ultimatum

During a meeting with officials from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, led by Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the labour leaders emphasized that only the government could prevent the planned strike by addressing the 15-point agreement reached on October 2, 2023.
Despite pleas from the minister to reconsider the strike and assurances that the government was addressing labour concerns, the labour leaders remained firm.
“We made it clear to the minister and her team that our ultimatum stands. Only the government can avert the strike by fulfilling the agreement reached on October 2, 2023,” one labour leader stated.
While acknowledging that the meeting created a platform for discussion, the labour leaders emphasized their commitment to the ultimatum, citing widespread suffering and poverty across the nation as reasons for their stance.
The NLC and TUC had issued the 14-day strike notice on February 8, expressing frustration over the government’s perceived indifference to the country’s widespread suffering and hardship.
