Commissioner Alli-Balogun made this announcement during a briefing on Thursday, commemorating the first year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office. Governor Sanwo-Olu, upon his re-election, pledged unwavering support to the educational sector, a promise that the Lagos State government has consistently fulfilled.

Highlighting the government’s commitment, Commissioner Alli-Balogun stated, “The administration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu has never defaulted on the payment of WASSCE fees of all public school SS3 students.” Over the past four years, the government has disbursed over N4.2 billion towards this endeavor.

For the current academic year (2024), Governor Sanwo-Olu has approved a budget of N1,571,076,000 to cover registration fees and associated costs for 58,188 SS3 students sitting for the WASSCE.

This announcement comes at a time when the West African Examination Council (WAEC) is gearing up to introduce computer-based examinations starting in 2024. Earlier this year, WAEC released the results of the inaugural CBT exam, known as the 2024–First Series, where 42.07% of candidates achieved credit and above in a minimum of five subjects.
