Market vendors, youths, and citizens alike converged in the Ibeju-Lekki district, brandishing placards adorned with poignant messages aimed at the government, signaling their discontent with prevailing hardships.

Emblazoned with calls for action, slogans like “Baba Tinubu, Nigerians are hungry” and “Tinubu, come and rescue us” echoed through the air, reflecting the sentiments of a populace burdened by economic strain.

The wave of dissent wasn’t confined to Lagos alone. Across states like Kogi, Osun, Niger, and Kano, similar protests erupted in recent days, fueled by the relentless surge in living expenses since the contentious removal of petrol subsidies in May 2023.

Amidst the uproar, legal luminary Prof. Itse Sagay, a former advisor to President Buhari, decried the abruptness of President Tinubu’s subsidy removal announcement, attributing it to the unfolding hardships faced by Nigerians.
