The stringent action comes in the wake of heightened concerns over the flagrant disregard for traffic regulations and the resultant hazards posed by Okada operations in prohibited zones. Under the directive of the Lagos State Government, the Taskforce has diligently carried out raids across strategic locations including Berger, Fagba, Dopemu, Iyana Ipaja, 2nd Rainbow, Festac, First Gate, Alakija, Mile 2, Ilasan, Maroko, Lekki, Ikota, and Chevron, resulting in the seizure of 150, 120, and 250 motorcycles respectively from these areas.

In a statement issued by the Director of Press & Public Affairs for the Lagos State Taskforce, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, it was reiterated that such enforcement actions align with the overarching goals of the state government’s THEMES PLUS Agenda. The crackdown underscores the imperative to uphold public safety and maintain order on Lagos highways, thereby safeguarding the lives of motorists and commuters alike.

CSP Shola Jejeloye emphasized the gravity of the situation, indicating that there would be no leniency towards violators of the ban on Okada operations. He underscored the inherent risks associated with motorcycle transportation and urged commuters to embrace safer alternatives such as the new blue/red line railway services and Millennium bus services. Jejeloye further urged Okada operators to heed the call for compliance or seek alternative legal means of livelihood, cautioning that covert operations would continue to be met with stringent penalties.

As the Taskforce remains steadfast in its resolve to eradicate Okada operations from prohibited zones, residents of Lagos are assured that further raids will be conducted rigorously until the scourge of unauthorized motorcycle transportation becomes a relic of the past. The message is clear: there is no room for Okada in Lagos, and the enforcement efforts will only intensify in the interest of public safety and order on the roads.
