LP Senator Explodes: North Must Drop 2027 Ambition, Tinubu Endured Buhari’s Flaws
A Labour Party (LP) senator representing Edo South, Neda Imasuen, has called on northern politicians to shelve their presidential ambitions until 2031……..READ MORE
Speaking to reporters in Benin City, the senator emphasized the unwritten constitutional understanding that the presidency alternates between the North and South every eight years.
Imasuen noted that despite former President Muhammadu Buhari’s controversial policies, he was allowed to complete his two terms in office. He stated, “The North held the presidency for eight years, and the South is expected to hold it for the next eight. Politicians eyeing the 2027 presidential race will face this barrier.”
He added that even the North, despite their reservations about Buhari’s policies, did not challenge his presidency, choosing instead to wait for their turn. Imasuen expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has demonstrated strong leadership, will secure a second term, citing his persistence in passing the controversial tax reform bills as a testament to his courage and determination.
As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions, Imasuen’s comments also touched on the need for political unity, urging the North to respect the rotation agreement for the sake of national cohesion.
