Major Policy Shift: Tinubu Grants Ministers Of State Full Decision-Making Powers
President Bola Tinubu has introduced a key policy change, granting ministers of state full authority to manage and oversee the agencies and departments under their jurisdiction. Previously, files related to these areas were submitted to…CONTINUE READING…
senior ministers for final approval, limiting the ministers of state’s decision-making power.This system had effectively reduced their roles to largely ceremonial positions, with permanent secretaries handling most of the administrative tasks. However, following dissatisfaction with this structure, President Tinubu has now empowered the ministers of state to make all necessary administrative decisions within their designated areas.
A source from the Office of the Head of Service revealed that the president felt the previous framework underutilized the skills and capabilities of the ministers of state. The new policy is designed to maximize the efficiency of the cabinet and ensure more effective governance.
The move impacts 16 ministries, including agriculture and food security, defence, education, the Federal Capital Territory, foreign affairs, health, petroleum, humanitarian and poverty reduction, and women affairs, as well as works, regional development, labour, finance, trade, and housing.
