Mamora, who previously commented on the “constitutional” removal of ex-Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, offered his advice as Meranda officially took office on Monday. This followed a controversy over Obasa’s dismissal, where he challenged the legality of the action, despite the Assembly’s over two-thirds majority vote in favor of his removal on January 13, 2025, due to allegations of misconduct and financial mismanagement.

Mamora, who served as Speaker of the Lagos Assembly from 1999 to 2003, emphasized that Meranda’s leadership must be marked by fairness and transparency. He advised her to avoid making the same mistakes as her predecessor, particularly those involving allegations of high-handedness and mismanagement.

As a seasoned leader, Mamora also urged Meranda to regularly engage with her colleagues, prioritize financial accountability, and maintain cordial relationships with both the executive arm and the Assembly staff. Above all, he stressed the importance of humility, knowledge of parliamentary rules, and the need for God’s guidance in her leadership.
