Man Claims Accident After Setting Girlfriend Ablaze In Dispute

Ganiyu, now in police custody, denies intentionally setting her ablaze, asserting it was an accidental fire caused by petrol dripping onto her dress during their struggle.

Esther, currently battling for her life at the National Hospital in Abuja, sustained significant injuries after flames engulfed her. Meanwhile, Ganiyu, who was nearly lynched by a mob before police intervention, insists he loves Esther deeply and wants to marry her despite the tragedy.

According to reports, the altercation began when Ganiyu confronted Esther over her alcohol consumption, leading to a physical scuffle. He explained that he unknowingly spilled petrol from a bottle he carried while attempting to light a cigarette, which then ignited.

The victim’s uncle revealed Esther’s challenging past, including a leg deformity sustained years ago, and expressed concern over mounting hospital bills. He called on the suspect to provide more financial support for her treatment.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, urged the public to practice patience and avoid escalating conflicts to prevent such devastating outcomes.
