Man Collapses And Dies While Trying To Bail His Sons At Niger State Police Station

A tragic incident occurred at Morris Police Division in Minna, Niger State, where an elderly man, Alhaji Muftau Mohammed, collapsed and passed away while attempting to secure the release of his two sons, Mubarak Ahmed and Yusuf Mohammed, who had been arrested by the police. Yusuf Mohammed, one of the sons, recounted the events leading to their arrest, stating that they were taken into custody by the police while resting in front of their house. Upon arrival at the police station, they heard their father’s voice outside, followed by his sudden silence. Later, they were informed of his tragic demise.

Dauda Jimo, a neighbor who accompanied Alhaji Muftau Mohammed to the police station, mentioned that the deceased suffered from high blood pressure and often experienced severe headaches during distressing situations. Despite efforts to seek medical attention, Alhaji Mohammed collapsed on the way to the hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Minna General Hospital.

Witnesses, including Alhaji Mohammed’s wife, corroborated the sequence of events, highlighting the devastating impact of the tragedy on the family.

The Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident and assured that an investigation would be conducted to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Alhaji Mohammed’s death and determine if any negligence occurred.

This unfortunate incident underscores the need for thorough investigations and accountability to prevent similar occurrences and ensure justice for the deceased and his family.
