A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after recounting an incident during a church service in 2022 that he said made him stop attending church.

According to Ireporter Online, the man shared his experience in a post on X, where he also identified the church he attended at the time as Omega Ministry.

He explained that the incident occurred during a sermon when the clergyman was speaking about poverty and allegedly singled him out in front of the congregation as an example.

The man said the experience left a lasting impression on him and ultimately led to his decision to stop attending church.

His account has since generated widespread reactions on social media, with several users condemning the alleged public embarrassment and questioning the appropriateness of using a church member as an example in such a manner.

Reacting to the post, Zoe Oluwatoyin questioned why a pastor would publicly identify someone as an example of poverty during a church service.

Man Ije described what he termed the use of embarrassing situations in the name of prophecy as a major problem, while Oreofe expressed surprise that the man was allegedly singled out before the congregation.

Franklyn argued that faith should encourage and convict people rather than embarrass them to the point where they no longer want to return to church.

Another commenter, David Skidis, described the alleged treatment as an extreme form of disrespect.

The discussion has continued to attract attention online, with many users sharing their views on the importance of sensitivity and dignity when addressing personal or financial struggles in religious settings.
