Man Receives Life Sentence For Raping 8-Year-Old Girl

Justice Blessing Egwu, delivering the judgment on Tuesday, condemned the convict’s actions, stating that he displayed a lack of conscience. She also expressed dismay at the prevalence of child defilement in society.

As part of the judgment, Justice Egwu ordered Mfon to pay a fine of N1 million to the survivor, whose identity was not disclosed.

The prosecution was facilitated by notable figures including Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Grimah; Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Ededem Ani; Principal Counsel of Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI), Barr. James Ibor; and Prosecutor, Patience Emmanuel Akpama.

Barr. James Ibor commended the survivor’s father for resisting intimidation and bribes to withdraw the case, thanking the law enforcement officials and legal team for their support throughout the prosecution process.
