The man, reportedly experiencing a seizure during rush hour, landed perilously close to the electrified third rail as a train rapidly approached.
Officers from the 47th Precinct swiftly arrived at the station around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, to execute the daring rescue.
One officer managed to access the platform with the assistance of a passenger who opened the emergency exit gate, while another had to leap the turnstile.
“Despite the imminent dangers, @NYPD47Pct officers sprang into action & without hesitation pulled him off the tracks,” the NYPD commended.
With urgency in their voices, the officers, along with helpful bystanders, hoisted the man to safety just moments before the train arrived.
The officers navigated their way back to the platform, with one effortlessly returning while the other bravely struggled to escape the perilous tracks. Fortunately, both officers emerged unscathed.
Following the harrowing ordeal, the officers received accolades from witnesses at the station, praising their heroic actions in saving a life.
As the condition of the fallen man remained unclear, no further injuries were reported from the incident.
