Massive Witness Lineup: PDP And APC Prepare 290 Testimonies For Edo Election Tribunal

The Chairman of the 2024 Edo Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, Justice Wilfred Kpochi, announced on Saturday that both the PDP and APC have agreed to call a total of 290 witnesses for the case. The hearing, which has been adjourned to January 13, 2025, will proceed according to a strict schedule agreed upon by both parties. The tribunal plans to sit daily, excluding Sundays and public holidays, to ensure a thorough and timely process.

Justice Kpochi also outlined additional procedural agreements, including time limits for witness testimony and the use of interpreters for certain local dialects. The petitioners, Asue Ighodalo and the PDP, are challenging the declaration of Monday Okpebholo from the APC as the winner of the September 21, 2024, Edo gubernatorial election, where Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes against Ighodalo’s 247,274. The tribunal will continue its work in January, focusing on witness testimonies and further legal proceedings.
