OOU Community In Mourning As Road Accident Claims Three Bright Young Lives

The Vice-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, on Saturday, expressed deep sorrow and shock over the tragic death of three students in a lone car accident on Friday along the Ilisan-Ago-Iwoye road. Opeyemi Joshua, a 200-level Taxation student; and Ogooluwa Miracle Daniel, a 200-level Mass Communication student.

Two other students involved in the accident were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention. In a statement issued by Dr. Wale Balogun of the university’s Corporate Affairs Division, Prof. Agboola described the incident as heartbreaking and assured that the university is collaborating with relevant authorities to support the affected families. He conveyed his prayers and condolences to the bereaved, acknowledging the immense grief they are enduring.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed that the accident occurred around 3:30 PM on December 20, 2024. The students were traveling in a commercial Opel Safira, which lost control due to excessive speed and veered into the bush. The driver, Adekunkle Adebiyi, reportedly resides in Awa Ijebu. While one male passenger died at the scene, the two female students succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Two others are currently receiving medical care. The vehicle has been recovered for further investigation.
