Murtala Ajaka Ambushed By Thugs Outside Supreme Court After Election Judgment

In a shocking incident, Murtala Ajaka, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the November 2023 Kogi State election, was attacked by thugs at the Supreme Court on Friday. The attack occurred shortly after the court ruled in favor of Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring him the duly elected Governor of Kogi State.

Witnesses reported that Ajaka was beaten and pelted with water by the hoodlums as his team frantically tried to help him escape. The assault followed the Supreme Court’s dismissal of Ajaka’s appeal, which challenged the election results, citing a lack of merit and substance in his case.

Justice Sadiq Umar, delivering the lead judgment, noted that most of the allegations made by Ajaka and his party were pre-election matters that should have been addressed at the federal high court. The court’s decision has sparked tensions, leading to the violent reaction against Ajaka.

In related news, the Supreme Court also dismissed appeals from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) regarding the Imo State governorship election, further solidifying Hope Uzodinma’s position as the Governor of Imo State.
