EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede: “Nigerians Are Good People, But the System Encourages Fraud
Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), recently shared his perspective on the challenges Nigeria faces in combating fraud. According to Olukoyede, Nigerians are inherently good people, but the country’s system is flawed, creating an environment where fraudulent activities can thrive.
He pointed out that while the majority of Nigerians are hardworking and honest, the current structure in the country seems to enable and even encourage fraudulent practices. “Nigerians are good people,” he said, “but we operate a system that allows fraud to flourish.”
Olukoyede’s statement highlights the urgent need for systemic reform in Nigeria. The EFCC has been at the forefront of the fight against corruption and fraud, and its chairman’s comments suggest that tackling these issues requires more than just cracking down on criminals—it requires a fundamental change in how the system operates.
The chairman’s remarks resonate with many Nigerians who believe that the country’s potential is being undermined by corruption and poor governance. The hope is that with continued efforts from the EFCC and other relevant bodies, Nigeria can build a more transparent and accountable system that reflects the true character of its people.
