Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru, Alake emphasized Nasarawa’s critical role in unlocking the state’s extensive mineral resources for national progress.

“Nasarawa State is the heart of mining in Nigeria, and we must work together to enhance mining operations within the state. Importantly, the reforms implemented in the last 17 months to streamline and bolster the mining sector are starting to show positive results, attracting global interest in Nigeria’s mining landscape,” he stated.

Governor Sule praised the Minister’s initiatives in revitalizing the mining sector, noting that Nigeria has positioned itself as an attractive destination for foreign investors.

“Nigeria has become a focal point in the mining industry, drawing attention to various resources such as lithium, titanium, tantalite, cobalt, and more. The minister has effectively advanced Mr. President’s agenda in this arena. However, we still face security challenges in mining operations, which cannot be overlooked,” he remarked.

The meeting allowed for discussions on collaboration as the Minister oversees mining activities. Governor Sule acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s decision to involve communities in mining endeavors.

“The purpose of this meeting is to align our contributions to the Minister’s management of diverse mining activities. Lithium mining companies are actively operating in Nasarawa, and as more sites are discovered, additional factories will emerge. The factory commissioned by Mr. President is already making significant progress, with more facilities in the pipeline.

“The process for individual states to apply for licenses is primarily for local communities. It’s crucial for the communities to feel they have a stake in these activities. The Bola Tinubu administration is intent on avoiding the pitfalls experienced in the oil and gas sector, where licenses were solely granted to international oil companies until issues arose.

“Mr. President has proactively addressed this through the Minister, enabling states and local companies to apply for licenses and form partnerships with major mining firms to jointly pursue these activities,” he added.
