Nasarawa Nurses Issue 14-Day Ultimatum To Governor Sule, Threaten Strike

Expressing grave concerns over the state of the health sector, the association highlighted the potential collapse of healthcare services if urgent steps are not taken.

In a letter dated March 11th, signed by the state Chairman, Attah Ayaka Avre, and Secretary, Alaku Ayuba, NANNM underscored several unresolved issues with the state government.

These demands encompassed the critical shortage of manpower in hospitals, implementation of the reviewed Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), reviewed hazard allowance, and the settlement of outstanding uniform allowances for the years 2021 and 2022.

Despite previous correspondences and a meeting with the Commissioner of Health on January 23rd, 2024, NANNM lamented the lack of tangible progress in addressing these pressing concerns.

Additionally, the association raised alarm over the adverse effects of multiple taxation imposed by the state government, significantly diminishing the take-home pay of its members.

NANNM urgently called upon Governor Sule to address their grievances promptly, emphasizing the need to enhance the welfare and effectiveness of nurses and midwives across the state.

They advocated for the recruitment of additional healthcare personnel and the provision of modern medical equipment in hospitals to elevate healthcare delivery standards.

In a bid to avert the impending industrial action, NANNM urged the governor to engage in constructive dialogue and ensure timely resolution of their demands.

Recognizing the pivotal role of the health sector in advancing the state’s development agenda, they implored Governor Sule to prioritize the welfare of health workers to prevent a breakdown in essential services.

The association cautioned against heeding misguided counsel from government officials and urged swift action to convene negotiations before the situation escalates further.
