The probe comes in the wake of a protest by the students on Monday, condemning the reported mistreatment of two of their peers by officers of the Nigerian Police.
According to one of the protesters, the incident occurred late on Saturday, March 9, around 10:00 pm, when two students, Joseph Musa and Joy Ishaya, were allegedly harassed and molested by police officers at a checkpoint while returning from night study sessions.
The protester further highlighted a pattern of harassment faced by students, including restrictions on motorcycle taxis, physical assaults on male students, and derogatory comments directed at female students, which have made life difficult, particularly when accessing school premises.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, assured that the accused officer had been identified and would face sanctions if found guilty. The Commissioner of Police has also scheduled a meeting with the students and school management to address the matter further.
Nansel emphasized the seriousness with which the Command takes such allegations, assuring the students of justice and reaffirming the commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, including students.
