Abuja Flood: Residents Beg Wike For Urgent Help As Homes, Roads Submerged

Residents in parts of the Federal Capital Territory have appealed to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, to urgently intervene after heavy rainfall caused severe flooding across several areas of Abuja.

According to Ireporter Online, the downpour on Saturday, August 15, overwhelmed major roads and residential communities, disrupting movement and forcing motorists to abandon their journeys.

Areas reportedly affected include Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent in Wuse 2, the vicinity of Delight Event Centre in Gudu, parts of Efab Estate in Lokogoma, as well as the bridge linking Gaduwa and Durumi.

Several vehicles were reportedly trapped or submerged in the floodwaters, while some buildings and properties were also affected. Commuters were forced to seek alternative routes as floodwaters made some major roads impassable.

A resident who recorded the flooding around the Ebeano-Gudu Road appealed directly to the FCT minister for immediate assistance, describing the situation as a serious challenge for residents and motorists in the area.

The resident urged Wike, popularly associated with the implementation of infrastructure projects in the capital, to visit the affected area and take steps to address the flooding.

The latest incident has renewed concerns over drainage infrastructure and flood management in parts of Abuja, particularly as heavy rainfall continues to pose challenges to residents and commuters.

Meanwhile, the FCT Administration recently announced the closure of the secretariat of the dissolved Ad-hoc Committee on the Sale of Federal Government Houses in the territory.

The administration also created a division within the Department of Land Administration to handle matters relating to the sale of Federal Government Houses, a responsibility previously handled by the dissolved committee.

The FCT authorities subsequently warned members of the public against fraudsters claiming to be officials or members of the former committee and its secretariat, stressing that both bodies no longer exist.
