Afrobeats singer Omah Lay has disclosed that he has stopped making efforts to quit smoking after several unsuccessful attempts, saying he has come to terms with the habit.

The singer, whose real name is Omah Stanley Didia, made the revelation during a recent podcast interview, where he admitted that he enjoys smoking and no longer wants to put himself under pressure to stop.

According to Ireporter Online, the “Soso” crooner said he had previously tried to quit but was unable to maintain the decision, adding that he has now chosen to accept his lifestyle.

“I love smoking a lot. I tried to stop; I forced myself; I can’t. Honestly, bro, life is just one. I am going to just die one day. We are all going to die one day. So what’s the essence?” he said.

Omah Lay further disclosed that smoking weed gives him a sense of peace and what he described as “artificial happiness.” He also noted that the fact that cannabis remains illegal in Nigeria contributes to the feeling of rebellion associated with the habit.

“I just want to be at peace and smoke my weed. And the fact that it is illegal in Nigeria gives me artificial happiness. This is it. This is my life. I will just live it. I will enjoy every single thing that I have,” he explained.

The singer’s comments have generated reactions, with his disclosure renewing conversations about smoking, personal choices and the pressures surrounding attempts to quit addictive habits.
