Tinubu Launches ₦216bn Osun–Oyo Road Projects

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially inaugurated the construction of the 82-kilometre Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road and the reconstruction of the 44-kilometre Gbongan-Osogbo Road in Osun State as part of the Federal Government’s infrastructure development drive.

According to IReporter Online, the President, represented at the ceremony by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, directed the contractors handling both projects to deliver quality work within the stipulated 24-month completion period.

Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration would closely supervise the execution of the projects to guarantee transparency, quality standards and value for public funds, stressing that the road projects would significantly improve transportation, economic activities and regional connectivity.

Among dignitaries present at the event were Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, Minister of Works Senator Dave Umahi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, and other top government officials.

The President also urged the contractors to engage local youths during the construction process to provide them with practical skills and employment opportunities.

He emphasized that every stage of the projects would be closely monitored to ensure timely delivery and tangible benefits for host communities, adding that the roads would serve as lasting symbols of development and national progress.

The 44-kilometre Gbongan-Osogbo Road reconstruction, which covers the rehabilitation of damaged sections and the rebuilding of deteriorated dual carriageway portions linking towns including Owode-Ede, Akoda-Ede, Sekona, Oogi, Ode-Omu and Gbongan, was awarded to Messrs Trucrete Solutions Limited at a cost of ₦101.8 billion.

Similarly, the 82-kilometre Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road project, awarded to Messrs Peculiar Concerns Limited for ₦114.85 billion, is expected to improve access between Osun and Oyo states by providing a shorter route through major agricultural communities.

The President also highlighted other ongoing federal road projects across the South-West, including the rehabilitation of the Ibadan-Ife-Ilesha Road and the dualisation of the Ilesha-Akure-Owo-Benin highway, noting that construction is progressing steadily.

He further disclosed that Section One of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is nearing completion, while work continues across Ogun, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states. Tinubu added that construction on various sections of the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway has reached between 18 and 60 percent completion, while parts of the Trans-Sahara trade corridor linking Calabar to Abuja through several states have entered the construction phase, with other segments at advanced planning and mobilisation stages.

Speaking at the event, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, endorsed President Tinubu’s administration and pledged support for his re-election bid in 2027, stating that he would not back any other presidential aspirant.

Governor Monday Okpebholo and Minister Dave Umahi also urged residents of Osun State to support the APC in the forthcoming governorship election, describing it as a way of appreciating the Federal Government’s extensive investment in infrastructure across the state.
