Tinubu Approves Fresh Civil Service Recruitment Exercise

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers into the Federal Civil Service as part of efforts to address manpower shortages in federal secondary and technical institutions across the country.

According to Ireporter Online, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed the approval in a statement issued on Thursday through his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah.

Alausa explained that the recruitment process would prioritise PTA teachers who have already undergone verification, many of whom have spent between 10 and 25 years working in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges without permanent appointments.

The minister described the approval as a major step by the Tinubu administration towards strengthening Nigeria’s education sector and providing career stability for long-serving teachers who have contributed to the development of federal schools.

He stated that an inter-ministerial committee conducted a thorough screening exercise involving PTA teachers across Federal Unity Colleges, leading to the confirmation of 3,252 qualified candidates.

The verified applicants were cleared across three categories, including education officers, assistant education officers and technical instructors. According to the minister, the successful candidates will be regularised into the public service after completing all required statutory procedures.

Alausa said the initiative would reduce the dependence of federal schools on temporary teachers funded by parents through PTA contributions, while also improving staffing levels and the quality of teaching and learning.

He added that the recruitment would help improve the teacher-to-student ratio in federal institutions and ensure that students receive better classroom support.

The minister commended President Tinubu for approving the measure, noting that the decision reflects the government’s commitment to investing in teachers and improving Nigeria’s education system.
