Breaking: Jonathan Holds Closed-Door Meeting With Tinubu At Aso Rock

According to Ireporter Online, the former Nigerian leader arrived at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa and met with President Tinubu for discussions behind closed doors.

Details of the meeting were not immediately disclosed, as no official statement was issued by either the Presidency or Jonathan’s representatives after the engagement.

The visit comes at a time when political parties and major stakeholders are intensifying preparations and consultations ahead of the 2027 elections.

The meeting also comes shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rejected claims by the Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it had manually submitted its list of candidates for the forthcoming elections, including Jonathan as its presidential candidate.

INEC explained that political parties are required to submit candidates’ names through the commission’s approved electronic nomination portal, stating that manual submissions do not align with the established electoral process.

The commission’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Ita-Messi, disclosed in an interview that political parties must follow the official electronic procedure for candidate submissions.

However, she noted that she could not confirm whether the faction had submitted any candidate list but maintained that the recognised process remains the use of INEC’s designated platform.

Jonathan’s visit to the Presidential Villa has further fueled discussions among political observers, given his previous role as Nigeria’s president and the growing focus on possible alliances and realignments ahead of the 2027 election.
