The Nigerian currency maintained its position in the parallel foreign exchange market on Sunday, with the United States dollar trading at ₦1,425 for sellers and ₦1,410 for buyers.

According to Ireporter Online, Bureau De Change (BDC) operators in Lagos quoted the dollar at ₦1,425 on the selling side, while buyers purchased the currency at ₦1,410 in the black market, also known as the parallel market.

The exchange rates reflect prevailing transactions among traders in the unofficial forex market, where rates are determined by market demand and supply.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) continues to distance itself from activities in the parallel market, maintaining that it does not recognise black market foreign exchange transactions.

The apex bank has consistently advised individuals and businesses seeking foreign exchange to conduct their transactions through authorised financial institutions and commercial banks.

At the official foreign exchange window, the CBN recorded the dollar at a highest rate of ₦1,372 and a lowest rate of ₦1,360.

Market observers noted that exchange rates may vary across locations and dealers, as prices are influenced by market conditions and individual negotiations between buyers and sellers.
