Atiku Has Zero Regrets Working With Obasanjo – Paul Ibe

A media aide to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, has criticised former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his recent comments about Atiku, describing the former Nigerian leader as hypocritical, according to Ireporter Online.

Ibe made the remarks while reacting to Obasanjo’s statement that choosing Atiku as his vice president in 1999 was one of the biggest regrets of his presidency.

Speaking during an interview, Ibe insisted that Atiku would not personally engage in a public exchange with the former president, maintaining that the ADC presidential candidate had deliberately refrained from responding directly to the criticism.

He accused Obasanjo of engaging in vindictive politics aimed at undermining Atiku’s prospects ahead of the 2027 presidential election, arguing that the outcome of the poll would ultimately be decided by Nigerians rather than any individual.

According to Ibe, many Nigerians have already formed their opinions about the former president and would not allow his remarks to influence their political choices. He added that Obasanjo, despite his status as a former Head of State, possesses only one vote like every other Nigerian.

Responding to suggestions that Obasanjo’s comments could benefit another presidential hopeful, Ibe said the former president was free to support any candidate of his choice but urged him to conduct himself in a manner befitting his office and legacy.

He also questioned why Obasanjo continued to publicly criticise Atiku decades after they served together in government, despite acknowledging that disagreements during their administration should not justify a prolonged political dispute.

Ibe further stated that Atiku has never expressed regret over working with Obasanjo, insisting that the former vice president remains focused on Nigeria’s future rather than revisiting past political differences.

He maintained that Nigerians would determine the outcome of the 2027 presidential election, expressing confidence that voters would make their decision based on the country’s current realities rather than personal disagreements between political figures.
