Shehu Sani Predicts No End To Obasanjo, Atiku Feud Until Death
Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has weighed in on the long-running political rivalry between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying the dispute may continue for the rest of their lives.
According to Ireporter Online, Sani made the remark in a post shared on his account on Saturday while reacting to the latest exchange between the two political figures.
The former lawmaker observed that the disagreement has endured for more than two decades, outlasting several political cycles and even an entire generation of young Nigerians.
He noted that the feud began when many members of Generation Z were still in nursery and primary school and has continued to this day, with many of them now adults who have completed higher education, started families and built careers.
Sani suggested that the rivalry could persist until one of the two elder statesmen passes away, after which the surviving party may eventually pay tribute to the other despite their prolonged political differences.
Using military imagery to describe the intensity of their exchanges, he remarked that Atiku had once launched a “devastating bomb” at Obasanjo and had, in turn, been receiving what he described as the former president’s “hypersonic missiles” over the past two decades.
The renewed public comments come in the wake of Obasanjo’s recent assertion that selecting Atiku as his running mate in the 1999 presidential election was among the greatest mistakes of his political career.
Obasanjo and Atiku served together as President and Vice President between 1999 and 2007, but their relationship deteriorated during their time in office and has remained strained ever since.
